  1. Welcome to the Caligari pluSpack1
  2. ---------------------------------

  4. This CD includes:
  5.  
  6.    - A feature upgrade to trueSpace3
  7.    - Four powerful extension products
  8.    - The latest trueSpace3 eXtension SDK
  9.    - Microsoft DirectX version 5
  10.    - Microsoft and SGI OpenGL libraries
  11.  
  12. At the end of this file, we have also included instructions
  13. for manual installation of the pluSpack.

  16. Important Note about 256-Color Displays
  17. ---------------------------------------
  18. Please note that trueSpace3 and the extensions were designed
  19. for use on 16-bit (or better) displays.
  20.  
  21. While trueSpace3 and the extensions can be used in 256-color
  22. mode, you should be aware that you may experience some color
  23. shifts when switching between applications, especially when
  24. trueSpace is not full-screen.
  25.  
  26. If you experience these problems, you just need to cause 
  27. trueSpace3 to refresh by mouse-clicking on the window, or
  28. minimizing and then restoring trueSpace3.
  29.  
  30.  
  31. trueSpace3 Upgrade
  32. ------------------
  33. Installing the pluSpack1 will upgrade trueSpace3 to version
  34. 3.2. trueSpace3.2 provides OpenGL support for graphics
  35. acceleration on Windows 95/NT, the ability to load and save
  36. DirectX objects, and an expanded plug-in interface.
  37.  
  38. These patches will only upgrade the release version of
  39. trueSpace3 (version 3.0), and the 3.1 version from our Web
  40. site or the trueClips3 CD.
  41.  
  42. If you have the special NT 3.51 (DirectX disabled) version of
  43. trueSpace3, you will need to reinstall trueSpace3 from your
  44. original CD before upgrading.
  45.  
  46. These patches will not work on any other versions of Caligari
  47. products.
  48.  
  49.  
  50. trueSpace3 eXtensions
  51. ---------------------
  52. The pluSpack1 includes four powerful extension products:
  53.  
  54.    coolpowers2 from windmill fraser multimedia 
  55.    Mesh Forge and Primal Particles from Primitive Itch 
  56.    Material Generator from Paladin Studios
  57.  
  58. These are full-featured products; they are not disabled demo
  59. versions.  Full explanations of these extensions can be found
  60. in the pluSpack1 manual.

  63. tSX SDK
  64. -------
  65. If you are interested in developing extensions to trueSpace3
  66. (like the ones included with the pluSpack), you can find the
  67. complete SDK on the CD in the TSX_SDK directory.
  68.  
  69. All related programming files and documentation can be found
  70. there.

  73. Microsoft DirectX
  74. -----------------
  75. The pluSpack1 installation will check for DirectX version 5,
  76. upgrading from version 3 if needed.
  77.  
  78. DirectX offers support for hardware acceleration using some of
  79. the newer graphics cards under Windows 95.
  80.  
  81. DirectX 5 is not currently supported by Microsoft on Windows NT.

  84. Microsoft and SGI OpenGL
  85. ------------------------
  86. OpenGL is another set of libraries that offer solid display mode
  87. in trueSpace3.  OpenGL works on both Windows 95 and Windows NT.
  88.  
  89. We have included two versions of OpenGL because they offer
  90. different performance in hardware and software; trueSpace3 will
  91. use the best one based on your graphics card, screen resolutions,
  92. and so on.

  94. We have also included the complete SGI OpenGL SDK on your CD in
  95. the DATA\SGI_GL directory.

  98. Manual Installation
  99. -------------------
  100. If you experience problems installing the trueSpace3 upgrade, you
  101. should first try to reinstall trueSpace3 from your original CD,
  102. and then run the pluSpack1 installation.
  103.  
  104. If this still does not work, or you just want to install things
  105. by hand, you can perform the following steps:
  106.  
  107.   1) To upgrade trueSpace3, you first need to know what version
  108.      you are using.  This can be found in the About box, which is
  109.      accessed from the Help menu in trueSpace3.
  110.  
  111.   2) Copy the appropriate patch file from the DATA directory of
  112.      the CD to your trueSpace3 directory.  It is very important
  113.      that you actually COPY this file.  You cannot run it from
  114.      a shortcut, nor can you run it from the CD.
  115.  
  116.   3) Double-click on the patch file that you copied to your
  117.      hard drive.  This will launch the patch program, and update
  118.      your trueSpace3 files.

  121. If you have problems installing the other components, or you want
  122. to install things by hand, you can perform these steps:
  123.  
  124.   1) To install the Mesh Forge, Primal Particles, and Material
  125.      Generator extensions, simply copy all of the files in the
  126.      respective directories (in DATA on the CD) to the TSX
  127.      directory.  The TSX directory is located in the same place
  128.      as your trueSpace3 program.
  129.  
  130.   2) The coolpowers extension has a complete setup program.  You
  131.      can run this from DATA\CP2\CP2PPE.EXE on your CD.
  132.  
  133.   3) The Microsoft OpenGL libraries are found in DATA\OPENGL95.
  134.      You must copy these files to your WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory.
  135.  
  136.   4) The SGI OpenGL libraries are found in DATA\SGI_GL. Note that
  137.      this directory includes the SDK installation and LICENSE.TXT.
  138.      You must copy the two *.DLL files to your WINDOWS\SYSTEM
  139.      directory to use trueSpace3.  If you want to install the
  140.      SDK (not required), you can double-click the SGI_GL.EXE
  141.      file.

  143.   5) Finally, DATA\DIRECTX contains Microsoft DirectX version 5.
  144.      This includes the DXSETUP.EXE program which can be used to
  145.      check and install DirectX.
